It is 2km from the monastery and it is a beautiful island which connects to Crete by ashallow strip of sand of 80m. It is possible to walk across the sea to the island.
On the island there is a plaque in memory of the disaster on 24April, 1824, Easter Sunday, when 40 greek fighters and 600 women and children were killed by the soldiers of Imbraim.
The san is quite unique with special colours and the sandhills are on an ideal place for sunbathing and relaxation.
